The team is finalizing a contract with Luis Rojas to be the manager, replacing Carlos Beltran, with whom the club mutually parted ways last week in the wake of Beltran’s role in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal.
Rojas, 38, was the Mets’ quality control coach last season after eight years as a manager in their minor league system. He interviewed for the managerial job after Mickey Callaway was fired following the 2019 season.

Rojas’ internal promotion allows for continuity with the coaching staff the Mets had assembled around Beltran. Rojas has been prepping with the staff for more than two months now — as opposed to Tim Bogar or Eduardo Perez, who were candidates in the inital manager search, or a veteran steward such as Dusty Baker or Buck Showalter. And he previously managed many of the Mets players in the minors.
Rojas is the son of legendary manager Felipe Alou and the younger brother of All-Star outfielder Moises Alou, who finished his career with the Mets in 2007-08.
