Anthony Mackie was introduced as the character of Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), where he lent a helping hand to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johansson) in their fight to stay alive after the former is framed in the supposed death of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

Wilson became good friends with Cap and eventually became a part of the Avengers, featuring in the final battle with the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin).

While speaking to ComicBook.com as part of the promotion to the Netflix series Altered Carbon season 2, Mackie stated that despite it being a Disney + show, there would be lots of action.

You know, it’s Marvel so the story’s there, the character’s there, but those action set pieces are just as vast.

The actor also spoke on the challenges of holding and throwing Captain America’s shield; it may seem easy but it’s actually quite challenging.

Mackie said that he surprised that they used him in the Superbowl TV Spot as his stunt double (who happens to be a gymnast) made it look easy but it wasn’t.

I was surprised that they used me because you have a double, a dude that looks like you who’s like a gymnast and he does all this stuff. That’s when they’re like, ‘All right, Anthony, you do it.’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, you just saw what this dude did! How you gonna asked me to do that?’ So, I was surprised when I saw the Super Bowl trailer that they actually used me throwing the shield.

He also revealed that even though it’s made of the fictional vibranium which is light, the shield itself in real life is quite heavy.

That thing is it’s like 12 pounds. So you’re standing there with 12 pounds on your arm all day after a while your shoulder just gives. So, we have some pretty cool shield throwing sequences.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on Disney + in August 2020.
