Benjamin Bratt is joining Rosario Dawson in the series adaptation of DMZ.
This will make it the third time Bratt will work on a comic book project as he appeared in DC’s Catwoman (opposite Halle Berry) and Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange.
According to Deadline, Bratt has been cast as a series regular and will be seen in the pilot episode of the series being helmed by filmmaker Ava Duvernay (When They See Us).
The synopsis of the first volume of the DC/Verito Comic reads:
In the near future, America’s worst nightmare has come true. With military adventurism overseas bogging down the Army and National Guard, the U.S. government mistakenly neglects the very real threat of anti-establishment militias scattered across the 50 states. Like a sleeping giant, Middle America rises up and violently pushes its way to the shining seas, coming to a standstill at the line in the sand – Manhattan. Or, as the world now knows it, the DMZ. Matty Roth, a naive aspiring photojournalist, lands a dream job following a veteran war correspondent into the heart of he DMZ. Things soon go terribly wrong, and Matty finds himself lost and alone in a world he’s only seen on television.There, he is faced with a choice: try and find a way off the island, or make his career with an assignment most journalists would kill for. But can he survive in this savage war zone long enough to report the truth?
The upcoming show comes from Warner Bros. Television for HBO Max and will see Bratt play Parco Delgado, the deadly leader of the most powerful gangs in the DMZ.
Parco wants to be the ruler of the DMZ and will let nothing get in his way. He is known to be widely magnetic, affable, and influential.
Showrunner Roberto Patino will write the script, Duvernay acting as executive producer. The pilot is produced by ARRAY Filmworks in collaboration with WBTV.
