Kumail Nanjiani has signed on to star in the political thriller The Independent.
The Pakistani-American actor is among the ensemble cast of the upcoming Marvel film The Eternals and was impressive in the 2019 comedy Stuber.
Nanjiani’s Hollywood career is obviously blossoming; his Oscar nomination in 2017 for The Big Sick helped bring him to the limelight and since then, it has been an upward journey to success.
The Independent will see Nanjiani play an idealistic young journalist who uncovers a major political conspiracy just when America’s first viable independent presidential candidate is poised for electoral victory.
With a highly-ranked script, the film is being financed by The Exchange and will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin.
It also marks the feature directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Amy Rice. Evan Parter will produce alongside Sam Brisbee and Theodora Dunlap.
CEO of The Exchange, Brian O’Shea had this to say about Nanjiani:
Kumail is a great actor with global recognition and he serves as the cornerstone for an incredible ensemble cast that we are excited to announce shortly.
