President Muhammadu Buhari in his broadcast to the nation on Sunday claims that his administration has been monitoring the situation closely since the Coronavirus pandemic broke out in China.
According to the President, the federal government is currently working with other institutions to create a vaccine for the virus and citizens must be willing to sacrifice for the greater good of the nation.
Concerning measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus, President Buhari said the federal government has introduced border security to ensure no entry.
President Buhari also commended the Director-General of the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC for the immense work he has been doing so far with his team. According to him, the government will ensure that all states have enough resources to contain the spread of the virus.
OduNews.com also understands from the President’s speech that the government has approved intervention fund to respond to the pandemic. Health workers and AD Hocs will be trained to act in this response.
So far, 97 cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed in Nigeria with the majority from Lagos
Curfew has also been placed on Lagos, Ogun and Abuja. Heads of security agencies have been briefed to monitor this restriction, in other words, anyone found violating will bear the severe consequences.
As to commercial activities, all should remain on total lockdown except for those that provide essential services such as Food, Petrol, Power & Securities.
In his concluding part, the President gears every citizen to also help in controlling the spread of the virus as it has become a patriotic duty. In his words, “some countries have taken stricter measures than Nigeria”.
