The United Arab Emirates has announced online weddings amid the coronavirus lockdown.
This was revealed by the Justice Ministry on Sunday, April 12, 2020, stating that citizens and residents could now set a date for an online wedding ceremony conducted via video link with a minister. This should be after their paperwork has been submitted and approved (also online).
The region has so far taken strict measures in combating the spread of COVID-19 and the online wedding procedure will feature the cleric confirm the identity of the couple and witnesses before a marriage certificate is relayed to a specialized court for validation.
The couple will then receive confirmation of their union through a text message.
The service was launched to maintain the health of the public and that of those working on courts, and to limit the of employees.
The development comes after Dubai, one of the seven places that makes up the UAE, disclosed last week that marriages and divorces had been suspended.
