The Penguin actor Colin Farrell has revealed details about the character fans are yet to see in the upcoming DC film The Batman.
Farrell spoke with GMA News Online about his role as one of Batman’s foes, calling it “original and fun.”
Production on The Batman had to be stopped because of the coronavirus pandemic, and Farrell has revealed just how stoked he is to play the character.
It’s all exciting. To be a part of that universe and just there are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon: Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, all these things. I had only started it and I can’t wait to get back.
The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it. I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means. But there are a couple of some tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I can’t wait to get back.”
The actor also said that the character is an iconic villain who consistently tries to thwart Batman, and despite it being a small role, Farrell noted that playing the character was a challenge in that it is something he hasn’t had the opportunity to explore before.
He added, “It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can’t wait to get back and really get into it.”
The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and features an ensemble cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis. It will be released on June 25, 2021.
