Disney is looking to give fans a fresh perspective on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and they are reportedly eyeing none other than Karen Gillan.
In 2018, it became known that the studio made the decision to reboot their blockbuster franchise, and many fans wondered if it would include its main star Johnny Depp.
Well, if new reports are any indication, Depp may not be returning at all.
According to an insider, Daniel Richtman, the Mouse House is really toeing the reboot route and currently searching for a female lead.
The report goes on to reveal that one name at the top of Disney‘s list is Avengers: Endgame actress Karen Gillan.
As at the time of writing this, it is unknown if Gillan has had any formal meeting with the studio, but Disney is definitely interested in her.
Also, the studio is considering women of color for the lead role. Character and plot details are being kept under wraps but Gillan’s name being brought up should stir fans with joy as she has proved that she can be part of a major blockbuster in both Endgame and Jumanji: The Next Level.
Back in October 2019, Disney chose Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot (who wrote the previous Pirates film) to find a new direction for the franchise.
Producing will be Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. A director hasn’t been picked yet but that should change in the coming weeks.
