Some officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, on Saturday helped a pregnant woman struggling to drive while in labour to the hospital.
Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC public education officer, in a statement on Sunday, said the incident occurred in Lagos at about 2:34 pm.
A patrol team belonging to the airport unit command of the FRSC was said to have sighted the pregnant woman as she was driving herself to the hospital, NAN reported.
“She was struggling to drive amidst painful labour and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Ajao Estate, where she was delivered of a baby girl barely three hours later,” it reads.
In the statement, Kazeem explained that the gesture displayed by the FRSC patrol team was part of the corps statutory responsibility of saving lives through prompt rescue services on the roads.
He further said Boboye Oyeyemi, the FRSC corps marshal, has expressed appreciation to the patrol team for the prompt intervention and rescue services.
He added that Oyeyemi also applauded the patrol team for such act of compassion and sacrifice towards the pregnant woman which he described as a positive representation of the true mission of FRSC.
Kazeem, in the statement, said this was one among many of such interventions that the operatives of FRSC carry out from time to time when they embark on patrol.
