Even though the two have become buddies these days, pop star Lady Gaga has revealed that she initially didn’t want to be friends with fellow singer Ariana Grande.
Apparently, it took some time before their friendship began despite the fact that they have crossed paths several times in their careers, often at music award shows.
For the longest time, lady Gaga was too ‘ashamed’ to strike up a friendship with Ariana Grande because she felt she would influence the younger star negatively.
The Bad Romance crooner made the disclosure during a recent interview for Apple Beats 1, where she told Zane Lowe that she was afraid she would end up being a bad influence on Grande.
“She was so persistent. She’d try over and over again to be friends with me. And I was just too ashamed to hang out with her because I did not want to project all this negativity onto something that was healing and so beautiful”, she stated.
Gaga recalled that Grande had gone through ‘really hard life testing stuff’, an obvious reference to the concert bombing tragedy, and losing her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller to an overdose, among other things.
She further said that Grande ‘called her on her sh*t’, confronting her about hiding, to which she replied in the affirmative.
Their friendship has obviously blossomed, leading to their collaboration on the duet Rain On Me.
