Hollywood action star Mark Wahlberg shared the touching story of his mother’s journey as a nurse on National Nurses Day.
The Spenser Confidential star honored his mum and all the first responders working at the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing that it was her birthday.
Wahlberg gave the speech outside the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles on the morning of Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
He said:
It is fitting that on this day, the start of Nurses Appreciation Week, is my mum’s birthday. My mum gave birth to nine children. I don’t know if you guys have ever seen the ‘Wahlburgers’ TV show but my mum always steals the show, and she’s doing that again today.
It’s her birthday. After giving birth to nine kids, she put herself through nursing school to work at the very same hospital where she gave birth to all of us.
I’ve always had a deep appreciation for what my mum did. And for what people do in public service.”
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also gave some words of appreciation for the nurses at the hospital.
I want to thank you for what you do every single day. It doesn’t take COVID-19 for you to give outpouring love to those who need it most. I’ve brought my daughter here, this is my family hospital. My daughter comes here to the emergency room. She comes here for her check ups and I know this is not just one of the finest hospitals; it’s the finest hospital I’ve been involved in and that’s because of the nurses and all the professionals.
So, let’s give a round of applause to everyone who is devoting their lives to save our lives.”
