Robert Downey Jr. is teaming up with streaming giant Netflix for an adaptation of the comic book series Sweet Tooth.
Downey is one of the most recognizable movie stars in the world and is known for playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Sweet Tooth is based on a DC Vertigo comic book series from Jeff Lemire. It ran for 40 issues from 2009-2013, and the story follows Gus (part boy part deer) who leaves his forest habitation to discover the world outside has been destroyed by a cataclysmic occurrence.
Gus decides to join a group of misfits (made up of humans and fellow animal children hybrids) in order to find answers about this new world and his origins.
The plot of Sweet Tooth has been described by some to be a combination of Mad Max and Bambi.
Netflix made the announcement that they are collaborating with Downey to make the adaptation, ordering eight one-hour long episodes which will be developed by showrunners Jim Mickle and Ben Schwartz.
The cast of the show includes Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Will Forte, and James Brolin (as the voice of the narrator).
Sweet Tooth will be produced by Downey Jr., Amanda Burrell, Susan Downey, and Linda Moran. A release date hasn’t been set yet but OduNews.com will keep fans posted if and when something turns up.
