A Minneapolis judge has set a $1 million bail for Derek Chauvin, the officer charged with the murder of George Floyd.
Officer Chauvin who made his first court appearance on Monday, June 8, 2020, was caught on camera pressing his knee to the back of George Floyd‘s neck, leading to his death.
The accused appeared via video from Minnesota state prison to face charges of one count of second-degree murder, one count of third-degree murder, and one count of manslaughter.
In a procedural hearing that didn’t require 44-year-old Chauvin to submit a plea, the Hennepin County District Judge set his bail at $1 million with conditions, and $1.25 million without conditions.
Meeting the conditions would mean Chauvin surrendering his firearms, no longer working in law enforcement or security in any capacity, and having no contact with the Floyd family.
