On Friday, June 5, 2020, Chocolate City CEO Audu Maikori won his lawsuit against the Kaduna State government over violation of his human rights.
Maikori had filed a N10 million lawsuit against Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and the state government, accusing them of violating his human rights after his arrest for his report on the purported killing of five students in College of Education, Kaduna.
The Chocolate City CEO apologized for posting the false story which he said was told to him by his drivers and was arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for interrogation following a petition filed by the Kaduna State Government.
He was subsequently released on bail and cleared of any complicity by the Police Force headquarters.
In an unexpected turn of events, Maikori was rearrested and taken to Kaduna where he was detained for four days before being charged to court.
He was granted bail by the court on health grounds, and following a fundamental human rights enforcement counter-lawsuit filed by the label boss, he has now been awarded N10 million by a three-man panel of the court who unanimously upheld the ruling of the Federal High Court holding the actions of the Kaduna State Government as unlawful and unconstitutional.
