Actor Will Smith has called divorcing his first wife the worst thing he has been through in his life.
The Bad Boyz For Life star (51) and Sheree Fletcher got married in 1992. Their union didn’t last long as they divorced in 1995, something that Smith has said is “the worst thing in my adult life.”
Will made the admission while making an appearance on his second wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s chat show Red Table Talk as the couple broached the issue of raising Will and Sheree’s son, Trey (27).
According to the Hollywood star, the divorce was difficult for him because Trey was just a toddler when the marriage ended.
Jada, who brought up the issue, said:
I want to talk about one interesting concept that you’ve brought up quite a bit in regards to Trey and divorce — and the idea being that just because a man might not be the best husband, does not mean he isn’t a good father.”
Will replied:
With Sheree and with Trey, that was a really difficult time. Divorce was the worst thing in my adult life, divorce was the ultimate failure for me. I’ve been hurt a lot in my adult life, but I don’t think anything touches the failure of getting divorced from my 2-year-old son’s mother.”
Will married fellow movie star Jada in 1997. They have two children; son Jaden (21) and daughter Willow (19).
Trey’s mother, Sheree had appeared on the debut episode of the Red Table Talk in May 2018, and she and Jada had talked about their relationship.
Both women had revealed that they once argued on the phone when Jada called Sheree to ask about Trey. Jada had hung up and Will had to intervene to end their conflict.
