Baby Driver director Edgar Wright is set to helm a movie adaptation of the best-selling novel The Chain.
Universal Pictures has chosen the filmmaker who achieved critical and commercial success with 2017’s Baby Driver (starring Ansel Elgort) for what is hopefully another good feature.
Deadline reports that Wright’s involvement comes following a seven-figure deal by the studio for the acquisition to the rights of Adrian McKinty’s thrilling novel of the same name.
The Chain revolves around a mother whose child is kidnapped. She finds out that the only way to guarantee the safety of the child is to kidnap someone else’s child in exchange.
In addition to directing, Wright will also produce. The screenplay will be penned by Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Golden Circle).
Wright is also signed to direct Set My Heart to Five in early 2020. His other film credits include Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), and Last Night in Soho (2021).
