Fans were thrilled with joy when it was revealed that there was going to be a fourth Matrix with lead star Keanu Reeves returning. Now the star has revealed the reason behind his decision to be a part of Lana Wachowski’s upcoming film.
Reeves’ depiction of the hero known as Neo catapulted him to the stratosphere as his movie career went to a whole new level. The messianic themes in The Matrix trilogy further made the character of Neo widely accepted as it was something that resonated with the religious beliefs of many.
Speaking to Empire recently, Reeves dished that the only reason he agreed to return for the sequel was because of the story that the director Lana Wachowski presented to him.
He said:
Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”
Additionally, his co-star Carrie-Anne Moss (who portrays Trinity, his love interest) had positive words to say about the script of the film.
When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting,”
Reeves and Moss’s words confirm that fans are in for another mind-blowing encounter when the fourth film arrives. Never lacking in innovative action and out-of-this-world special effects, the films in the franchise garnered a huge fan base that will be looking forward to the director taking things up a notch with the forthcoming part.
The Matrix 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 21, 2021.
