1. Gunmen disguised as worshippers, massacre over 35 in Ondo
Tragedy struck at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, the headquarters of the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State as gunmen attacked the church on Sunday. Various reports suggest over 35 persons, including women and children, were killed.
2. APC Primary: Buhari meets governors, party chairman, stakeholders
As the All Progressives Congress begin its quest to pick its presidential aspirant today, President Muhammadu Buhari met with stakeholders of the party to discuss the convention. Those present at the meeting include former chairmen, the current National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore; and some governors elected on the platform of the party.
3. Buhari never discussed power shift to south – Presidency
As against various reports, the presidency has denied reports that President Muhaamadu Buhari directed presidential aspirants from the northern extraction to step down for their southern counterparts.
4. 11 governors plan to deny us right to choose next President – Arewa Youth
Speaking on power shift to the south, AYCF in a statement by its National President, Yerima Shettima, said: “It is undemocratic to zone Nigeria’s presidency to the south in 2023 because it is the prerogative of voters to decide which candidate they would like to vote for, whether a northerner or a southerner. The masses have not spoken yet and it amounts to imposition to declare that south is the way to go.
5. At least 120 people have been hospitalized after suspected toxic chemicals from an expired industrial gas cylinder contaminated the air and spread to the neighborhood of Mundadu, a suburb of Kano. Locals said the incident occurred Friday evening where one Saifullahi gathered scrap metals and crushed them for recycling.
6. The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned what it called an unprovoked attack and the killing of several innocent worshippers on Sunday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo. The CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, on Sunday in a statement urged the security agencies to immediately apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly criminality.
7. Hundreds of landlords and residents have been rendered homeless after officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Urban Development, alongside security agents and hoodlums, demolished about 200 buildings at Oke-Ira community, in the Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area of the State. During the 10-hour demolition exercise, three landlords reportedly died from shock.
8. Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Benue State, Sir John Ngbede, has emerged as the deputy governorship candidate of the party for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State.
9. APC settles for Southern flagbearer
The APC Northern Governors and political leaders have backed power rotation to the South. Eleven northern governors elected under the party made this known in a statement on Saturday.
10. Joe Biden Claps Back at Elon Musk’s economy comments.
According to Reuters, Musk told his Tesla executives via email that he had a “super bad feeling” about the future of the US economy, prompting him to cease hiring and lay off a whopping 10 percent of the company’s staff. When asked about the situation at a press conference on June 3, Biden responded sternly. “While Elon Musk is talking about that, Ford is increasing their investment, overwhelmingly,” he retorted. “I think Ford is increasing the investment in building new electric vehicles. Six thousand employees – union employees, I might add, in the Midwest. The former Chrysler Corporation, they also are making similar investments in electric vehicles. Intel is adding 20,000 new jobs making computer chips,”
