An Akure High Court has sacked the Ondo state deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Samuel Aderoboye, from office, OduNews reports.
The presiding judge, Justice Adetan Osadebey, also ordered the reinstatement of the former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Ogundeji Iroju.
The court ruled that his removal as Deputy Speaker on November 24, 2020 was illegal, null, and void.
Iroju had been removed from his position following a disagreement with the Speaker of the House of Assembly over plans to impeach the then Deputy Governor of the State.
However, the Assembly through the State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Charles Titiloye, said the impeachment followed due process as the impeachment proceeding was served through substituted means.
Iroju sought legal recourse, arguing that his removal did not follow constitutional requirements.
The court agreed, finding that Iroju was not given a fair hearing and that due process had not been followed.
The court ordered that Iroju be reinstated, his entitlements paid up-to-date, and his paraphernalia of office be restored.
Additionally, the court awarded him N10 million in damages for the humiliation suffered during his impeachment and suspension from the Assembly.
