The United States has issued a direct warning to China, cautioning against any involvement in providing lethal aid to Russia in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that any arming of Moscow’s forces would have serious consequences for China. Blinken emphasized that China cannot put forward peace proposals while feeding the fire ignited by Russia.
US officials have warned for the past 10 days that they have intelligence indicating that China is considering providing lethal aid to Russia. This has led to deteriorating diplomatic relations between the two superpowers.
Blinken also indicated that China should not be surprised if US sanctions are imposed on Chinese companies or individuals found to be violating US sanctions or supporting the Russian war effort.
China’s foreign ministry has expressed anger over the issue, asking Americans to stop stirring up arguments about laboratory leaks and to stop politicizing the issue of the virus origin.
The US and China’s increasing rivalry is creating confrontations in multiple areas of American life, from the economy to public health, with rising tensions between US and Chinese forces in Asia and escalating standoffs over Taiwan.
