The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has denied the endorsement of Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election bid by any group within its fold.
The APC Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Mr Olawale Sadare, has denied reports that some pro-Tinubu support groups had endorsed Governor Seyi Makinde for re-election. Sadare said that no such groups were registered with the party, and that the names mentioned in the news report were fictitious. He further urged the public to be cautious of merchants of lies and propaganda who are being sponsored to mislead the electorate.
The APC spokesperson also called on the people of Oyo state to remain resolute and prevent the state from falling into opposition again under a Tinubu presidency. He emphasized that the focus of the party was on the upcoming March 11 Governorship and House of Assembly election, and that they were determined to better their performance from the previous election held in February.
The denial by the APC comes amidst speculation about the party’s internal dynamics, particularly with regards to the leadership of Bola Tinubu. While some factions within the party remain loyal to Tinubu, others have criticized his leadership style and questioned his suitability as a presidential candidate.
The reported endorsement of Makinde by pro-Tinubu groups could have further complicated the party’s internal dynamics and raised questions about the level of support Tinubu has within the party. However, the APC’s denial of such an endorsement suggests that the party remains united behind its governorship candidate, Sen. Teslim Folarin, and is focused on winning the upcoming election.
