Donatus Matthew, the member-elect for the Kaura Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, won the February 25 National Assembly election on the platform of the Labour Party.
In an interview with PUNCH Newspaper, he revealed that he joined the Labour Party to work for the presidential candidate but later went into the contest after due consultation.
Matthew said he won the election due to the collective decision of the people of Kaura, most especially the youth, who needed change and believed in him. He explained that the people at the grassroots knew him well and did not need a conventional campaign to win their support.
Matthew acknowledged that the Kaura Local Government Area had experienced security challenges in recent times, and he intends to tackle insecurity by bringing together different communities and religious groups for dialogue and understanding.
He also noted that he had settled boundary disputes between the Zankang community in Kaduna State and Ganawuri in Plateau State in 2012. When asked about his experience as an Okada rider, Matthew said he was proud of his humble beginnings and that riding Okada was like any other business that put food on the table.
Matthew advised people from humble backgrounds who want to go into politics to be focused, determined, and believe in God. He promised to provide an inclusive leadership that would carry everyone along, irrespective of party, religion, creed, or dialect.
