Survivors of Thursday’s crash involving a train and a bus carrying staff of Lagos State government have recounted their experiences during the tragic incident.

One survivor, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted how changing her seat saved her life. “Where I normally sat in the bus was the point the train rammed into,” she stated. However, a colleague invited her to sit with her on the third row in front, which ended up being the exact spot where the train hit.

Another survivor, named Ope, recounted how she woke up to the shouts of “e ma lo, e duro” (don’t go, wait) and then heard a loud bang before being flung from her seat due to the impact. Ope hit her head on a hard object and passed out before waking up in an ambulance that transported her to Orile Agege General Hospital.

The crash, which occurred due to a collision between a train and a Lagos State government staff bus, resulted in several injuries and fatalities. The driver of the bus, Oluwaseun Osinbajo, blamed the accident on mechanical faults in the vehicle and has begged for forgiveness. However, survivors claim that the driver had his earpiece on while driving and ignored the signalman at the rail line.

Several survivors were transported to Orile Agege General Hospital for treatment, including Mr. Juwon Fagbohun, Adesoji Ajibade, Mariam Olayiwola, Eniola Fashoyin, Mrs. Adejoke Banjo, Olaide Alabi, Sekinat Ogunremi, Aishat Gbadegeshin, Ganiyat Raji, and Mrs. Oluwatoyin Abiodun.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing, and authorities have stated that the driver will be prosecuted. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of safety measures and vigilance on the road to prevent such accidents from occurring.
