Classic Zelda Enemies Return in Tears of the Kingdom

The upcoming game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is set to bring back some familiar faces from the franchise’s history, as revealed in the latest trailer. Gleeok, a classic Zelda enemy, appears to be making a return as a boss character, marking its first appearance in 16 years.

The three-headed version of Gleeok shown in the trailer has not been seen since the very first game in the franchise, which launched in 1987. Although a two-headed variant appeared in 2007’s Phantom Hourglass and Oracle of Seasons, this version of Gleeok is making a comeback after 36 years. The trailer also features other boss-like creatures, hinting that Tears of the Kingdom may return to a classic Zelda boss formula instead of the more systematic approach used in Breath of the Wild.

Another iconic enemy from Ocarina of Time, the ReDead monster, is also making a comeback. Although not a boss, this haunting character is known for its appearance in Castle Town’s ruined marketplace following the time jump. The ReDead monster was spotted in February’s trailer, alongside a Lizalfos and what appears to be a giant Bokoblin.

Tears of the Kingdom is set to offer players even more freedom than its predecessor, introducing a new Fuse ability along with Recall, Ultrahand, and Ascend. The game is expected to have the largest file size of any first-party Nintendo Switch title, and will retail at $70, reflecting its ambitious scope.

Breath of the Wild, considered one of the best games of all time, has set high expectations for the upcoming release. Fans can look forward to a limited edition Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch that was announced alongside the gameplay presentation.
