American heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder is confident that he could knock out British-Nigerian Anthony Joshua within three rounds. Wilder, also known as the Bronze Bomber, is eyeing fights with both Joshua and Andy Ruiz in 2023, in a bid to prove he remains a formidable contender despite a previous defeat to Tyson Fury.
Though Wilder was expected to face Joshua in Saudi Arabia this December, no official announcement has been made yet. In the meantime, Wilder plans to fight Ruiz before meeting Joshua in the ring.
In a recent interview with ES News, Wilder was outspoken about Ruiz’s father’s comments concerning the financial aspects of a potential fight between Wilder and Ruiz.
“I didn’t talk to Andy’s daddy about any type of money whatsoever,” Wilder said. “Andy’s gonna be 33 years old, broke, can’t support his children because his daddy made decisions for him. Decisions that he should’ve made for himself.”
In terms of a fight with Joshua, Wilder confidently predicted a knockout in three rounds, stating, “Joshua’s a three-round fight. People come to see my God-given talent.”
On the other hand, Wilder was dismissive of Ruiz’s abilities. “Andy, what are we seeing from him? A short, fat fighter with small hands that make him look fast. That’s it. The only reason this fight would be exciting is because they wanna see how fast I would knock him out. Andy’s a one-round fight,” he said.
Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed ongoing negotiations between Wilder and Joshua’s representatives to finalize a deal for a fight with Joshua. Joshua could potentially face Dillian Whyte this summer before a December bout against Wilder.
