In a significant development in the lead-up to the 2023 Presidential elections in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is set to hold a world press conference today at the prestigious Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The conference is slated to address the recent controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic records, which were released by the Chicago State University (CSU).
An official press invitation has been extended to members of the media, stating, “This is to inform and invite you to the World Press Conference of Our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, GCON, at the Yar’Adua Centre, Tomorrow, Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the afternoon. The exact time will be communicated shortly. Please endeavor to attend. Thank You.”
The uproar began when Atiku Abubakar successfully secured the release of President Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University through a court subpoena, following President Tinubu’s refusal to disclose the documents.
The released records, which initially surfaced on October 3 and were followed by a formal deposition on Tuesday, have raised questions about the authenticity of the academic certificate that President Tinubu had submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for his presidential candidacy.
According to the records provided by CSU, President Tinubu’s 1979 certificate differed significantly from the samples of certificates issued by the university to students in the same year. This revelation has cast a shadow of doubt over the credibility of President Tinubu’s academic qualifications, particularly in the context of his eligibility to run for the highest office in the land.
In a sworn statement, the Registrar of Chicago State University expressed his inability to authenticate the certificate that President Tinubu had presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), further fueling speculations and concerns regarding the veracity of the documents.
The forthcoming world press conference by Atiku Abubakar is expected to shed more light on this contentious issue.
