In her first tweet, Ife talked about the extensive wedding preparations, including payments for the venue, a popular comedian, a musician, and a Vera Wang dress. She said, “Broke things off without thinking of all of that and returned everyone’s aso ebi money. I was getting married for the wrong reasons and I just couldn’t continue. I made one of the best decisions of my life.”

Replying to a follower, Ife admitted how tough the decision was. “It wasn’t. Had to leave the country for a while to sit by the beach in Hawaii. Needed time alone to forgive myself,” she shared, desribing the emotional weight of her choice.

When asked why she made this decision, Ife explained she felt a lot of pressure as her 30th birthday approached. “I don’t know who put it in my head that I had to be married at that time or it would be socially unacceptable to be unmarried at 30,” she tweeted. Despite her doubts and lack of love for her fiancé, an older friend advised her to go through with the wedding, suggesting she would “fall in love inside the marriage” and not let 30 pass her by.
