APC Aspirant Adeyemi Pledges Economic Revival for Ondo South

Janet Febisola Adeyemi, a former member of the House of Representatives, has thrown her hat into the ring as an aspirant for the Ondo South Senatorial District seat on the All Progressives Congress platform ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking on her vision for the district, Adeyemi laid out plans to transform the region into a centre for industrial expansion, maritime commerce, and agricultural development through targeted policies and purposeful governance.

The ex-lawmaker believes the district requires a fresh approach to unlock its economic potential. She argues that Ondo South has remained underutilised despite its abundant natural resources and strategic location along Nigeria's coastline. Adeyemi's blueprint centres on creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive while ensuring local communities benefit directly from economic activities in their areas.

Adeyemi's industrial growth strategy focuses on establishing processing plants and manufacturing facilities that can convert raw materials produced locally into finished goods. She plans to work with both government agencies and private investors to build the necessary infrastructure, including roads, power supply, and communication networks, that industries require to operate efficiently. Her approach emphasises employing residents of the district in these facilities to reduce unemployment and increase household incomes.

The maritime dimension of her plan recognises that Ondo South's coastal advantage remains largely underdeveloped. She intends to push for investment in fishing technology, fish processing, shipbuilding, and port-related services that can generate revenue and employment. Adeyemi believes the district can become a major hub for marine commerce if the right infrastructure and regulatory framework are put in place by elected officials.

On agriculture, Adeyemi plans to modernise farming practices through the introduction of improved crop varieties, mechanisation, and access to better storage and transportation systems. She proposes establishing cooperative societies to help small-scale farmers pool resources, access credit, and sell their produce at better prices. Her vision includes developing value chains where raw agricultural products are processed within the district before export, creating more jobs and retaining more wealth locally.

Adeyemi's approach to achieving these goals relies on strategic leadership and deliberate policy choices rather than empty promises. She emphasises the need for elected officials to serve as advocates for their districts in the halls of power, attracting investment and ensuring federal resources are allocated fairly. The former representative argues that Ondo South has not received the attention it deserves from previous elected officials, and she intends to change that narrative if given the party's ticket.

Her candidacy comes at a time when many Nigerians express frustration with the slow pace of economic development in their communities. The 2027 elections will give voters another opportunity to choose leaders they believe can deliver tangible improvements in their living standards. Adeyemi is banking on her experience in the lower chamber and her detailed economic plan to convince APC delegates that she is the right candidate to represent the district at the Senate.

The APC has not yet fixed a date for its primary elections for the Ondo South senatorial slot. Party officials will announce the timetable for all primary elections across the country once the National Working Committee meets to finalise the schedule. Adeyemi and other aspirants will have the opportunity to present their cases to delegates before voting takes place.
