Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State won the All Progressives Congress governorship primary on Friday with 233,335 votes, defeating his sole challenger Yilchini Jan Bida who polled just 3,070 votes across all 17 local government areas.
The returning officer, Fidelis Mnyim Bemse, announced the results at the APC Secretariat in Jos. The primary recorded 236,405 votes cast out of 240,832 registered voters. Mutfwang swept all wards and units in the state, securing the party's ticket for the 2027 governorship election.
Mutfwang's strongest performances came in his home local government, Mangu, where he polled 28,095 votes to Bida's 46, and Jos North with 26,652 votes against Bida's 68. In Kanam LGA, the governor scored 19,509 votes compared to Bida's 119 votes. Shendam gave Mutfwang 17,208 votes while Bida managed 389 votes. Langtang North returned 14,285 votes for the governor and 79 for his challenger.
Bida, a retired naval officer, recorded his best performance in Qua'an Pan where he secured 687 votes and in Kanke LGA, his home council, where he got 481 votes. He still lost both areas decisively. In other local governments, Bida's vote totals remained in double or low triple figures. Jos South gave Mutfwang 16,182 votes against Bida's 83. Bokkos returned 11,225 for Mutfwang and 200 for Bida. Pankshin recorded 13,050 for the governor and 304 for his challenger. Barkin Ladi gave Mutfwang 10,920 votes to Bida's 48. Wase returned 12,574 for Mutfwang and 59 for Bida.
Bemse declared that Mutfwang satisfied all APC constitutional requirements and had secured the highest number of valid votes. "Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected," the returning officer announced.
With this victory, Mutfwang becomes the official APC governorship candidate for Plateau State in the 2027 general elections. His dominance across all 17 local governments suggests significant support within the party structure ahead of the ballot.
