Otti made the pledge while addressing residents, framing security as essential to creating the conditions where businesses can grow, schools can function, and investors feel safe enough to bring money into the state.
The governor's emphasis comes as Abia grapples with the security challenges that have plagued much of the southeast region in recent years. Kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult clashes have disrupted economic activity and forced families to live in fear. Otti said his government understands that no meaningful progress can happen when people are afraid to move around their communities.
He did not announce new security deployments or specific operational changes in his remarks, but rather underscored that his administration would work closely with security agencies already operating in the state to improve coordination and response times. The governor also called on residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and refusing to shelter criminals.
Otti's security focus aligns with promises he made during his election campaign, when he told voters that restoring peace would be his first major undertaking. Since taking office, he has met with traditional rulers, community leaders, and security commanders to map out a strategy for tackling crime across the state's three senatorial districts.
The pledge signals that despite pressure to show quick wins on infrastructure and job creation, the governor believes establishing order must come first. Without it, he reasoned, contractors will not show up to build roads, parents will not send children to school, and traders will not open their shops.
