Tinubu wins APC primary in landslide, pledges more for Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu swept the All Progressives Congress presidential primary elections across all states where results were collated, with overwhelming support from party members that he said challenged him to deliver more for Nigeria.

Today, Tinubu will receive his Certificate of Return and the APC's presidential flag for the 2027 election at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The Presidential Primary Elections Committee will present the documents following nationwide collation of results. APC governors, National Executive Committee members, National Working Committee officials, National Assembly representatives, and party stalwarts are expected to attend.

Tinubu participated in voting at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos yesterday, arriving with his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and former Finance Minister Wale Edun received him. When asked about the massive party support, Tinubu said: "I'm just excited, they challenge me to do more."

The president described the primary elections as strong evidence of internal democracy within the ruling party. He said the exercise demonstrated grassroots politics where every party member could participate freely. "This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan," Tinubu told journalists. "It shows that we have internal democracy and it's peaceful and well organised."

Tinubu commended the 31 APC governors for managing their state primaries well, from ward congresses through local government congresses to delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration, and certification. "I am very satisfied that governors have done well in their various states," he said. "With this, you could rate democracy at a high level."

He also praised electoral officials, party leaders, and security agencies for ensuring the exercise was conducted peacefully and credibly. The president stressed that the APC remained committed to transparent and inclusive democratic processes that gave grassroots members the chance to freely choose their leaders. He urged Nigerians to support democratic institutions and national unity.

Tinubu's victory came after the Progressive Governors Forum endorsed him in May 2025 as the sole candidate for the 2027 race. He emerged as the lone significant challenger to Stanley Osifo, winning by landslide margins in all collated results.

The president reaffirmed his administration's commitment to democratic ideals, good governance, and policies to improve Nigerians' welfare while strengthening political stability nationwide. He will formally receive his candidacy documents today in Abuja.
