South Korean tech giant Samsung unveiled its 2020 flagship Galaxy S lineup with three new phones — Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra — at its Galaxy Unpacked event. The new phones are priced at $999, $1199 and $1399 respectively.
All three phones come with 120Hz displays, a minimum of 8GB of RAM, better cameras and 8K video recording. The phones will be available globally starting March 6. The new Galaxy S20 series will be launched in India very soon.
“As we enter this new decade, 5G will completely change how we communicate and how we experience the world around us,” said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “As all three Galaxy S20 variants come with 5G connectivity, Samsung is providing a next-generation device for transforming people’s lives. With an incredible, AI powered camera, you can capture the moments as they happen and connect more seamlessly with the people you love.”
All the three Galaxy flagship phones– S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra — will be backed by the same 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor. There are two processor variants, one powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor while the other option is Exynos 990. For India, Samsung is expected to launch the Exynos 990 variant. All the models run Android 10-based OneUI and the interface is the same.
There is IP68 dust and water protection on all models along with ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, face recognition and reverse charging. As far as 8K video recording is concerned, all the models can shoot 8K continuously, however, the files get saved in batches of 4GB while maintaining continuity. These videos can be uploaded to YouTube and screenshots of 8K videos generate 33MP photos. There is a new feature called Space Zoom which lets you zoom into high-resolution photos and crop-and-snap a new photo from it. Samsung claims improved super steady mode for shooting photos and videos along with new camera features like night hyperlapse. For Tik Tok creators, there is a new feature called Single Take which creates a 10-sec video using a different lens. With this mode you will get different output files of Live focus, cropped, Ultra Wide and more simultaneously which can be shared.
Also, there’s a new feature called Quick Share which lets you share content between two Galaxy phones in close proximity. Another common feature included is the punch-hole display in the top centre area which Samsung calls the Infinity-O display.
