Harriet actress Cynthia Erivo has been cast in the adaptation of the hit sci-fi thriller podcast Carrier.
Erivo got a double Oscar nomination last year for her role in the biopic Harriet and was the lead on the podcast and will reprise the role for the movie.
The black-skinned actress will play Raylene, a truck driver who accepts a trucking assignment to cover for her ill father. She is horrified when she discovers that her mysterious cargo is a threat to the world.
Raylene becomes the target of different forces who make it their mission to control or annihilate the threat.
The rights to the podcast were acquired by Amblin Entertainment and Amblin Partners’ President of Production Jeb Brod stated that a great story can transcend its medium to find new forms and audiences.
Cynthia Erivo also expressed her excitement at the prospect of bringing the podcast to the big screen which she says marks the beginning of a new adventure in creativity for her as a producer.
