‘My Spy’, an action-comedy starring Dave Bautista, is now heading to Amazon Prime for streaming following its acquisition by the company.
The Peter Segal-directed movie was picked up Amazon Studios from STX Films and MWM Studios for the United States and other key foreign territories.
‘My Spy’ follows JJ (Bautista), a hardened CIA operative who has been demoted. He finds himself at the mercy of a know-it-all 9-year-old girl named Sophie (played by Chloe Coleman) when he is sent undercover to carry out surveillance on her family.
When the little girl discovers hidden cameras in her house, she employs her tech-savviness to find the location of the surveillance.
Sophie makes a deal with JJ; in exchange for not blowing his cover, she convinces him to spend time with her and teach her to become a spy. JJ is reluctantly agreed as he finds out that her disarming charm and wit is making him develop a soft spot for her.
The film’s script was penned by Jon and Erich Hoeber, with Chris Bender, Peter Segal, David Bautista, Jake Weiner, Robert Simonds, Gigi Pritzker and Jonathan Meisner serving as producers.
‘My Spy’ was originally scheduled for theatrical release on April 17, 2020, but was acquired by Amazon due to the COVID-19 pandemic as streaming appears to be the logical choice.
