The untimely demise of George Floyd, the black American killed by a white cop in the United States has echoed throughout the globe, leaving many famous personalities mourning his death, among them Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
Following the massive protests which followed the racist action, the English professional player who plays as a forward for Manchester United has stated that society is now more divided than ever.
Many in the sporting world have condemned the killing of Floyd at the hands of Officer Derek Chauvin, and now Marcus Rashford has joined them.
I know you guys haven’t heard from me in a few days. I’ve been trying to process what is going on in the world,” he said in a Twitter post on Monday.
At a time I’ve been asking people to come together, work together and be united, we appear to me more divided than ever. People are hurting and people need answers. Black lives matter. Black culture matters. Black communities matter. We matter.”
George Floyd breathed his last when Officer Chauvin put his knee to the back of his neck last week, ignoring the former’s repeated pleas.
Rashford’s England’s teammate Jadon Sancho also addressed the tragic incident, saying: “We shouldn’t fear speaking out for what’s right.”
Sancho had displayed a T-shirt with the words ‘Justice for George Floyd’ after finding the back of the net in Sunday’s Dortmund 6-1 victory over Paderborn.
