Family of Tyre Nichols will receive support from the Floyd family at Tyre’s funeral in Memphis, where the two families will meet for the first time in person.
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing both families, stated that several members of the Floyd family will attend the ceremony on Wednesday.
The Floyd family sent their condolences to Tyre’s family after he passed away due to injuries sustained during a police incident.
Tyre’s family has been invited to participate in ongoing efforts to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and they have accepted. President Biden has also invited Tyre’s family to join the push for federal police reform legislation and has sent several dignitaries, including senior advisor Keisha Lance Bottoms, to attend the funeral.
Earlier today in the Oval Office, I met with George Floyd’s family. They’ve shown extraordinary courage over the last year, especially his young daughter Gianna, who I met again today. The day before her father’s funeral, she told me, “Daddy changed the world.”

Tyre’s family is expected to schedule meetings with lawmakers and continue advocating for police reform, just as the Floyd family has been doing since George’s death.
The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed the House in 2021 but was stalled in the Senate. President Biden has renewed his call to pass the act and is urging Republicans in Congress to work with Democrats to pass police reform legislation.
