Otti to personally fund new ecumenical centre in Umuahia

Abia State Governor Alex Otti said he will personally fund the construction of a new ecumenical centre in Umuahia, drawing on his own resources rather than state coffers. Otti made the announcement while fulfilling what he described as a vow he made to God, signalling his personal commitment to the project.

The governor did not specify the exact cost of the facility or the timeline for its completion. He was clear, however, that no state funds would be channelled toward the project, meaning the initiative would not compete with other government spending priorities in education, healthcare, or infrastructure.

Otti's decision reflects a broader pattern among Nigerian governors of using personal wealth to fund religious and community projects. The ecumenical centre, which will serve multiple Christian denominations, is expected to strengthen interfaith dialogue and religious harmony in the state capital.

The governor has not yet released details about the location of the centre or the architectural design. Religious leaders and community stakeholders in Umuahia are expected to be consulted as plans move forward.
