Taika Waititi is reportedly being courted by Lucasfilm to develop a new Star Wars movie.

Lucasfilm has exhausted their planned initial slate of films with the release of last year’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and although they have named 2022, 2024, and 2026 as film release dates, it is not known which movie would come first.

What we do know is that filmmaker Rian Johnson (Knives Out) is currently working on a movie series and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is also making another film.

Taika Waititi has had an impressive string of movies to his name lately, beginning with the 2016 indie movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople and then getting a major breakthrough with Marvel’s superhero outing Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

He also directed the final episode of The Mandalorian which was a great way to end the show’s first season and Lucasfilm executives obviously aren’t done with him yet.

According to a report from THR, Lucasfilm is in talks with Waititi to develop a Star Wars movie but it wasn’t specified in what capacity (whether as a director, writer or producer).

Whether or not Waititi has hopped on the project is something we can’t say at the moment. But OduNews will keep you informed of new details if they come up.
