Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Loses Its Director

Both the studio and the filmmaker have cited creative differences as the reason for the departure

Director is vacating the directorial chair of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Variety has reported that the departure was confirmed by the studio in a statement stating that the filmmaker’s decision was due to “creative differences.”

The statement from the company reads:

Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.

Derrickson directed Doctor Strange (2016) which was well-received by fans and critics and will remain onboard its sequel as an executive producer.

In a tweet which he shared online, Derrickson announced the development and said he was thankful for their collaboration and his remaining as an executive producer.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released on May 7, 2021, but with the director’s departure, Marvel may have no choice but to extend that date as they will now look for a worthy replacement.

Scott Derrickson is known for helming The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister. The original Doctor Strange movie made $677.7 million globally.
