Hollywood isn’t slowing down its efforts to do what it can in the fight against the coronavirus as stars Octavia Spencer, Melissa McCarthy, Joel McHale, Ben Falcone, Aimee Carpenter and Leslee Feldman have joined forces with Frontline Foods and José Andres World Central Kitchen to give meals to healthcare workers.
The movie stars band together with Frontline Foods, a grassroots organization formed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to raise funds to pay local restaurants to prepare meals for hospitals and healthcare workers on the frontline.
As at the time of this writing [backed by 400 volunteers], over $1.6 million has been raised and more than 50,000 meals have been delivered to 50 hospitals across the Unitef States.
The noble gesture has helped support 135 restaurants as the country continues to fight a way to deal with the virus that has ravaged the lives of many across the globe.
Spencer, McCarthy, Falcone, McHale, Carpenter and Feldman were already in the process of coordinated efforts to deliver food to hospital workers in Los Angeles, New York and Detroit when they found out about Frontline, which had been doing similar work.
Carpenter, Feldman and Spencer said in a joint statement:
“We are all so blessed to be healthy, home and safe and we wanted to do something, anything, to show our gratitude and support to the frontline workers who are making the ultimate sacrifices on our behalf. Once we were made aware of the communal support system created by Frontline Foods, we knew that this was such a natural extension to our grassroots campaign that we started from our own homes.”
