Lionsgate Making ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Movie

The latest novel in the Hunger Games series is set to be adapted to the big screen, with Francis Lawrence returning as director.

On Tuesday April 21, 2020, Lionsgate revealed that a Hunger Games prequel based on Suzanne Collins’ The Ballad of Songbirds and Snake.

The latest book by the author will be released on May 19, 2020. It takes place in the world established in the movies which starred Jennifer Lawrence and returning in directorial duties is Francis Lawrence.

The Hunger Games film series was a blockbuster franchise that made almost $3 billion at the global box office and Lionsgate will be looking to replicate that success with the upcoming film.

The prequel film will focus on a young Coriolanus Snow (played by Donald Sutherland in the earlier movies), seeing him in his late teens in a time before he became the tyrannical president of Panem.

Even though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, Coriolanus sees an opportunity for a change in his fortune when he is picked to mentor the Tenth Hunger Games.

Screenwriter Michael Arndt and producer Nina Jacobson who teamed with the studio for the four movie adaptations of Collins’ books will also be back to work on the sequel.
