A scene from BLACK WIDOW

Scarlet Johansson has spoken about her upcoming Black Widow film being a reflection of the #MeToo movement, revealing that there are feminist themes in it.

Directed by Cate Shortland, it sees the founding Avengers member return to her home country to settle some old scores. She is joined by former allies as new and old foes close in on her.

The prequel story takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and will show how Natasha (Johansson) attempts to take down the Red Room, the organization that trained her to be an assassin.

In an interview with Empire, Johansson dished on the themes of feminism in the plot and how it reflects the #MeToo movement.

“I think this film, in particular, is very much reflective of what’s going on in regards to the Time’s Up movement and the #MeToo movement. It would be such a miss if we didn’t address that stuff if this film didn’t take that head-on. I think, particularly for Cate, it was so important for her to make a movie about women who are helping other women, who lift other women up out of a very difficult situation. Someone asked me if Natasha was a feminist. Of course, she is, it’s obvious. It’s kinda an asinine question.”

The superhero known as Silk

Spider-Man’s ally Silk is primed to make her television debut as Sony Pictures Television is reportedly working on a show about the character.

Created by Spider-Man writer Dan Slott, Silk was another teen bitten by the same radioactive spider which gave the hero his powers.

Unlike Peter Parker, however, she is forced to hide away for more than a decade before finally revealing herself.
