DC’s upcoming movie The Batman has cast Andy Serkis to play Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth.
Over the past few weeks, the cast of the Matt Reeves movie has been filled with some of Hollywood’s most talented actors; from lead star Robert Pattinson (who will play a younger version of Bruce Wayne/Batman), to Zoe Kravitz taking on the Catwoman character, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright portraying Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. It is indeed going to be a significantly impactful film.
Alfred Pennyworth has always been a notable force behind Bruce Wayne/Batman, taking care of him right from childhood and providing the fancy gadgets he uses to fight criminals. Alfred has also been a father figure to the Dark Knight, and Serkis’ casting seems to be right on the money.
Andy Serkis’ rise in Hollywood can be traced to his motion-capture work, starting with the immensely successful Lord of the Rings trilogy, and seen later in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise.
He is also a very good thespian, appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther. Critics and fans wish he had more of a prominent role in the latter movie as his charismatic delivery of secondary antagonist was well-received.
Andrew Clement Serkis is an English actor and film director born on April 20, 1964. He is best known for his performance capture roles (encompassing motion capture acting, animation and voice work for computer-generated characters).
His film work in motion capture has been critically acclaimed and he has received an Empire Award and 2 Saturn Awards for it.
