According to a new report by UNICEF and the World Health Organization, some 2.2 billion people around the world do not have safely managed drinking water services, 4.2 billion people do not have safely managed sanitation services, and 3 billion lacks basic and washing facilities.

In an attempt to change this sad narrative to a positive one, and to sensitize the masses on their right to safe clean water and sanitation facilities and having realised that millions of people are being marginalised on issues relating to access to clean and safe drinking water, Hope Spring Water Charity joins the campaign to sensitize Nigerians on their human rights to clean and safe water.

What is #ClaimYourWaterRights?

Having realised that a lot of people are marginalised in Nigeria especially when water is concerned. Claim your water right campaign has the main aim of alleviating water poverty by sensitizing the young and marginalised group to claim their water rights. No matter where you come from or what you do, you have the right to demand safe water because it’s your basic human right.

Hope Spring Water roles in #ClaimYourWaterRights advocacy

Hope Spring Water has been engaging in a lot of campaigns by using media to sensitize Nigerians on their rights to water and sanitation. Giving them the procedures to follow to demand their water rights. Also visiting several state water providers to engage with the state and the federal government to include human rights to safe water and sanitation to the state and national water resource bill

Hope Spring water Enugu Claim your water right team paid an advocacy visit to Enugu Ministry of water resources and State water corporation responsible for providing clean water to the citizens. The advocacy meeting was led by the #ClaimYourWaterRights coordinator Temple Oraoki, where the government officials were sensitized on the objectives of Claim your water rights and human rights to water

The #claimYourWateRights team also visited the Butcher Abattoir Enugu where they explained the water poverty they face especially during the dry season when the two wells they have dry off.
Also, HopeSpringWater #ClaimYourWaterRights have held a series of a radio program on WASH Accessibility in health care facilities during and after the heat of COVID-19 pandemic. The essence of the is to sensitize people on their human right to water.

Advocacy success?

Hope Spring Water #ClaimYourWaterRight has recorded a reasonable success in its campaign. Following the series of radio advocacy and a visit by the claim your water rights team to Enugu water corporation and the special adviser to the Governor on water resources, Enugu has finally declared a state of emergency on the water in Enugu State. Hope Spring Water continues in its effort to sensitise people on their right to water.

A small charity making a big difference

Hope Spring started working in Nigeria about three years ago. Since the NGOs started work, it has made a significant impact on the water sanitation and hygiene sector in Nigeria. The charity has built dozens of boreholes and several dozens of wells. It has run many sanitation and hygiene projects. A spokesperson for the NGO said, “we are always looking for ways to improve access to clean water in Nigeria.”. She added, “we can do a lot more with help from you, you can make a donation to our clean water project online, your donation can make a difference”.
