‘The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance’ Is Nothing To Write Home About

Netflix’s new animated series is only as appealing as its misshapen creatures.

The first episode of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance introduces the world of Thra and we get to see that the Skeksis are the masters, while the Gelfings are the subjects (though the Queen is one of their own).

The Skeksis are the keepers of the crystal and it turns out they want to harness its dark powers for selfish reasons. That’s basically the plot of the first episode.

The choice of using puppetry makes the characters look like ugly toys and it’s obvious the movement of the lips is not in sync with the words being spoken.

The lack of facial expressions is another pointer that computer-generated creatures would have worked better.

Fans will likely lose interest halfway through as all they will see is a bunch of disgusting beings prancing about, looking lifeless despite their incessant prattling.

The only positive is the dazzling world and surroundings of Thra. But even the plant life looks like something out of a moviemaker’s nightmare.

Netflix has apparently made a mistake by purchasing this series as viewers will face a monumental disappointment (even the fans of animation). I see no reason why it should be renewed for a second season.
