Marvel Studios has officially started production on the second part of Captain Marvel.
JoBlo reports that the company announced the development which comes as no surprise considering the fact that the first film made $1.1 billion at the global box office against a budget of $400 million.
Starring Brie Larson, Captain Marvel told the origin story of Carol Danvers whose contact with one of the infinity stones imbues her with powers that turn her into one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
Captain Marvel teamed up with earth’s mightiest heroes to defeat the mad Titan known as Thanos and now her solo journey continues in the upcoming sequel.
According to reports, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck who directed the first movie will not be returning for the sequel and parent company Disney is searching for a female director to carry on from where they stopped.
Penning the script for Captain Marvel 2 is Megan McDonnell whose writing credit includes the upcoming Disney + series WandaVision.
Unlike the first, the second part will take place in a contemporary setting and it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Carol Denver’s best friend Maria (played by Lashana Lynch) will return.
More details will be shared as they are revealed.
