With the world still reeling from the death of legendary basketball icon Kobe Bryant, The Academy Awards (popularly known as the Oscars) will honor the late star at the awards ceremony next month.

Kobe Bryant died alongside his daughter Gianni, and others in the fatal crash on Sunday and the sporting world hasn’t recovered from the loss.

His family is reportedly battling to cope with the void left behind by the exit of the father and his thirteen-year-old daughter as theirs was a close-knit family.

In the ceremony which will take place on February 9, 2020, the Oscars will pay tribute to the deceased star while Elton John and actress Cynthia Erivo will perform their Oscar-nominated songs.

The Oscar event normally includes an ‘In Memoriam’ section that lists notable figures in entertainment who have died in the previous year. The Academy may put Kobe’s tribute as part of the section or as a standalone segment.

The 2020 Grammys saw a lot of celebrities pay tributes to Kobe and a game between Bryant’s LA Lakers and the LA Clippers which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday has been postponed.
