Captain America star Chris Evans has criticized President Donald Trump for the way he handled himself at a press briefing concerning the spreading coronavirus.
As the star-spangled character who always fights for justice, the actor never shied away from baring his mind; a trait that saw him clash repeatedly with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). It seems the actor has that trait imbibed in his veins.
On Sunday, March 15, 2020, President Trump told American citizens to “relax” at a press briefing with health officials, stating that his administration had “tremendous control” of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Coronavirus has affected more than 3,000 in the United States, claiming no less than 61 lives. While addressing those present, Trump said, “We’re all going to be great – we’re going to be so good.”
In contrast to the leader’s assuring remarks, members of the White House task force gave a far more serious statement about the global health crisis.
“The worst is, yes, ahead for us,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top infectious disease expert, emphasizing that the U.S. was at a “very, very critical point now,” as restaurants, movie theaters, and bars began to close across the country.
President Trump had earlier warned that COVID-19 was a very dangerous threat to the elderly ones and the vulnerable, letting the younger ones know that they were just as strongly affected.
The US leader then abruptly left the presser, refusing to take more questions from the press with the excuse of having to take some calls. Mike Pence (who heads the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force) took over.
Chris Evans, who has always voiced his dislike of Trump, shredded him for the way he acted:
“The president just ran off stage after his rambling press conference without answering a single question. America wants answers. America wants leadership. America doesn’t want a president who runs off stage during a crisis and lets Mike Pence do all the talking.”
