Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 is still on schedule to be released this holiday and won’t be delayed by the COVID-19 crisis.
Doubts had been raised as to the possibility of the company being able to meet up with the release of its latest video game console due to the working from home conditions and restrictions to factory operations caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, Sony has alleviated such concerns, with the assurance that the PS 5 will arrive this holiday season (which in the United States begins in late November, extending to the Christmas period).
The assurance was made during Sony’s end of year financial report where it was disclosed that there were “no major issues in game software development.” The company did acknowledge that things have been difficult during the global crisis.
In its forecast for the coming weeks, Sony said:
Regarding the launch of the PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season. At this point in time, major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios.”
Meanwhile, the potential release date for the console itself may have been made known, thanks to a tweet from Sony-related hunter Iron ManPS5, who revealed that the new DualSense controller will be hitting stores on November 20, 2020, at the suggested retail price of $59.99 in the United States and other related regions.
There is no mention of the PS 5 console but from the above information, it can be assumed that the console would be sold at about the same time as its controller. See the tweet below:
