Richard Wayne Penniman, better known as Little Richard has been laid to rest.
The event saw family, friends, and former band members gather for the late star’s graveside funeral and private service which took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2020 at the Oakwood University Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama.
Little Richard’s niece, opera singer Brandie Sutton, gave a rendition during the service, and Dr. Carlton P. Byrd delivered a eulogy. The late singer’s family spokesman David Person gave the closing remarks before he was laid to rest.
Little Richard died earlier this month at his Tennessee home. He was surrounded by his son, brother, and sister. According to his bass guitarist, Charles Glenn, Richard had been sick for a couple of months prior to his passing away.
The late star is famous for his notable influence on the rock ‘n’ roll genre, releasing popular hit songs. He is credited by The Beatles as an inspiration and he paved the way for other famous stars like The Rolling Stones, James Brown, and Michael Jackson.
Little Richard attended Oakwood University where he studied Theology after he had made a name as a music star.
